What is ICAP?
ICAP stands for the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan. It is the regulatory and professional body that governs the Chartered Accountancy qualification in Pakistan. Established in 1961, ICAP is the only institution in Pakistan authorised to award the CA designation.

What is CA Foundation (PRC)?
CA Foundation — officially called the Preliminary Requirement for CABAF (PRC) — is the entry-level stage of the ICAP CA qualification. It is the first exam you must clear before progressing to the higher stages of the CA programme.
PRC is the gateway exam. Clearing it is the first milestone on your journey to becoming a Chartered Accountant in Pakistan.
Who Can Attempt PRC?
Students who have passed their Matriculation (Grade 10) or equivalent
Students currently in Intermediate (Grade 11-12) can register and study
There is no upper age limit
Commerce background is helpful but not mandatory — students from science and arts streams also appear
Subjects in CA Foundation (PRC)
The CA Foundation exam covers four subjects:
FOA: Fundamentals of Accounting — Double entry, financial statements, adjustments
BAE: Business and Economic Insights — Vol I (ITB) and Vol II (Economics)
QAFB: Quantitative Analysis for Business — Maths, statistics, and quantitative methods
Each subject is tested in a single exam session. The papers are computer-based (CBT format) and primarily MCQ-based, though Financial Statements in FOA involves structured input responses.

Exam type: Computer-Based Test (CBT)
Question format: Multiple choice questions (MCQs) + structured input for FOA statements
Duration: 2 hours per paper
Passing marks: 50% per subject
Aggregate requirement: 50% aggregate across all subjects

CA Foundation Affiliated Institutes in Pakistan
